Comparison of the Etest with agar dilution for antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Haemophilus ducreyi.
Two methods for determining the sensitivity of Haemophilus ducreyi to antimicrobial agents were compared; an agar dilution method and the Etest. The MICs of seven antimicrobial agents; penicillin V, ampicillin, trimethoprim, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, erythromycin and ciprofloxacin were determined for 20 strains of H. ducreyi. The MICs determined with the Etest and with the agar dilution me...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibilities of southern African isolates of Haemophilus ducreyi.
We determined the antimicrobial susceptibilities of 122 recent clinical isolates of Haemophilus ducreyi to 24 antimicrobial agents. All isolates produced beta-lactamase and were resistant to penicillins. The majority of strains were also resistant to tetracycline, doxycycline, and sulfamethoxazole. All isolates were susceptible to macrolides, quinolones, extended-spectrum cephalosporins, specti...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility of Haemophilus parainfluenzae.
Fifty random clinical isolates of Haemophilus parainfluenzae were tested for their susceptibility to 10 antibiotics by a microtiter broth dilution method. Three of the strains tested were resistant to ampicillin, whereas eight were resistant to tetracycline. All strains tested were susceptible to chloramphenicol, kanamycin, gentamicin, cephalothin, and colistin. The ranges of minimal inhibitory...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility of Haemophilus influenzae.
Selected clinical isolates of Haemophilus influenzae were tested for their susceptibility to seven antibiotics by a microtiter broth dilution and an agar diffusion method. Eleven of 40 strains tested were resistant to ampicillin, the drug of choice, by both methods. All the strains tested were susceptible to chloramphenicol, and all but one were susceptible to tetracycline. Of the other four an...
متن کاملDirect Whole-Genome Sequencing of Cutaneous Strains of Haemophilus ducreyi
Haemophilus ducreyi, which causes chancroid, has emerged as a cause of pediatric skin disease. Isolation of H. ducreyi in low-income settings is challenging, limiting phylogenetic investigation. Next-generation sequencing demonstrates that cutaneous strains arise from class I and II H. ducreyi clades and that class II may represent a distinct subspecies.
